This is a strange game, starting with the premise that you are a sentient machine rather than a human(oid) adventurer. This means, amongst other things, that you cannot move around (N, S, E, W etc) as you would in a normal adventure game.

It is also essential that you read the (fairly extensive) documentation which comes with the game (printed, if you bought the original, or in the Manual.pdf file if you bought the Masterpieces CD) before starting the game, otherwise you really will have no id…

This is the follow-up to Snowball, and has a very irritating style. It's amazing that people in the 1980's managed to get through this game without throwing their television/monitor out of the window in frustration. See for more details.

It's also quite irritating that (in the Spectrum version I use, at least) you can't combine commands with full stops like you could with Snowball - you have to do every command on a new line.

Enchanter is apparently set in the Zork world, although certainly to start with there is no indication of this - it just seems like a "normal adventure-style" game.

It is the first part of a trilogy, which continues with Sorcerer, and then Spellbreaker.

I know that Inform7 has been out for a very long time now, but I'm not sure I like the approach it takes, and I think Inform6 better fits the way my programmer's brain works.

This is the second part of the Enchanter trilogy.

Note: this game involves a device known as an infotater, which is described as "the best way to store
data ever discovered".

If you bought the original packaged version of the game from Infocom, an infotater was included in the packaging. If you bought the game as part of the Infocom Masterpieces CD, it's useful to know that the information from the infotater is included in the Sorcerer documentation on the CD.

This is the third part of the Enchanter trilogy, following on from Sorcerer.

Start

You are in the Council Chamber of the ancient Guild Hall at Borphee. To the south is the entry of the
Guild Hall. There is a meeting of the guildmasters going on. You are standing among a group of about ten
sorcerers, each the master of an Enchanters Guild chapter somewhere in the land.

Wishbringer is not set in the Zork universe, and is labelled "Interactive Fantasy for Beginners" when you start the game.

This suggests to me that it should be a fairly easy game.

The Wishbringer itself is a magical stone, with which you can wish for seven different things. In order to get a wish granted, you also need to have a specific object associated with that wish. The objects and the wishes they are associated with are explained in the documentation which came with the game.
