Do not read this book. Read The One by all means, but do not read this one.

The story is mainly about one appalling person, but several others get involved as well.

The story is disjointed, totally not helped by the writing style of "this happens now; that happened 24 years ago" in different chapters, and made all the worse by flashbacks to even earlier happenings in the "24 years ago" chapters.

You won't enjoy the story even once you get to the end of it and find out why things happened as they did, because ultimately, things happened for no good reason.

This is probably why the book was written in the disjointed, out-of-sequence the way it was, because if the story had been presented in a sensible linear fashion, there would have been no story worth reading.

As it is, it's not worth reading.
