If anyone has the slightest clue what this book is trying to be about, congratulations to them.

(I do wonder whether what they think it's about matches up with anyone else's idea of the same thing, though.)

It made no sense to me whatsoever.

I bought the DVD as well, just to see whether some producer/director's ideas of what the book was about might give me a clue (and also knowing that films generally boil the story from a book down to its essential components, or at least make it a lot shorter and more succinct), but no, that didn't help either. I have no idea what the film was about, but at least that made it true to the book.
