FreePBX rejects my email address

The very first screen you see after installing FreePBX and rebooting it, then connecting to it with a browser, prompts you for the adminstrator's details:

There's a good chance that once you've put these in and click on the "Submit" button, the line with your email address will turn red, and that's all.

There's no error message, there's no indication of what's wrong, but it doesn't move on to the next screen.

The secret is that FreePBX doesn't like email addresses with upper case letters in them, even though this is perfectly valid - but it doesn't tell you this

It just turns your email address red and leaves you to figure out what you can possibly enter that it might be happy with.
