Quite a good introduction.
I don't mean that this book has a good introduction; I mean that it is one.
Unfortunately, being an entire book, this means you keep waiting for the story to get going, and it never does.
The story starts in the second book of the trilogy, and things would be much better if this book were 25% of its length, and was simply the first 10 or so chapters of an actual book containing the story as well as the lead-up to it.
So much is unexplained in this book - there's a fair amount of action, but as the reader you have no idea why. There is no stated purpose to what's going on, and there isn't even any explanation of why the main character who seems to be orchestrating everything is actually doing it.
Do not under any circumstances read this book expecting to get to the end and think "that was a good story - I wonder what the second book is like?"
If you do manage to get to the end of this one, you will at best simply know who three important characters are, and will be wondering "what are they going to do - what is the point of them coming together?"
